Itinerary
We meet our Tour Manager and our fellow travellers at London St Pancras where we join the Eurostar to Brussels. Travelling in style in spacious Eurostar Plus we enjoy a light meal at our seats as we glide through northern France and into Belgium. On arrival in Brussels, we change trains and travel by First Class rail to Cologne, where we spend a night.
Arriving around mid-afternoon, the rest of your day is free to explore the historic city nestled beside the glorious Rhine. Cologne's main attraction is its impressive Gothic cathedral with twin spires piercing the sky. Its historic squares are lined with charming buildings housing restaurants and bars. To enjoy a view of the city's skyline, you might like to join a riverboat cruise to see the sights from the Rhine River. This evening, we get to know one another over dinner at our central hotel.

The Harz mountains and the Rhine Gorge were both beautiful. Lots of interesting places along the way We had an excellent tour manager who dealt with the various train cancellations very well and guided our party of 26 through the alternative routes. The hotel in Wernigerode was excellent. It was a pity that the day off was a Sunday when some of the restaurants and all the shops were closed. We could not use the free bus ticket that the hotel gave us because the buses were infrequent on a Sunday! The tour would have received 5 stars but for the rather poor location and hotel at the Rhine. Assmanhausen has no shops and very few restaurants for the night we had to find somewhere for ourselves. The hotel was disappointing too. Not much choice for our evening meals. They served up one of the things that I have an allergy to. They had been told! One evening and morning there was no hot water in our shower. There were lots of really early starts. One of which could have been avoided if we had done a return journey on the gorge cruise rather than and early start to drive to Boppard and cruise back. The sights were amazing. The holiday could have been even better with a change in location at the Rhine and avoiding Sunday as a free day.

Wonderful experience. Very well-organised. We got to see a lot of Germany in a short space of time. Visited some beautiful world heritage sites. There’s a lot of travel involved so if you want something a bit more relaxing you might want to avoid this tour. We had a great tour guide who was very professional the whole time. The group was a good size of around 25 people, all very nice. All in all I would definitely recommend but read the itinerary carefully before committing.
